Hypotonia

Not only was I still reeling from talk of Down Syndrome when a new word I had never heard of was put into the mix....Hypotonia... it's low muscle tone, muscles appear relaxed and floppy. For Claire it took her longer to crawl, walk, hold a cup, and right now being able to hold a pencil properly and print her name.. but she is able to do all these things it just happened in her time! I've learned to ignore the development pages in baby books I've made a scrapbook of her accomplishments, done in Her time, and really shouldn't that be how it is? I have a lot more patience now, when helping Claire do crafts, printing, anything with the hands. But once again she has taught me through her struggles to Slow Down, see the Whole Picture not just part of it, and mostly Enjoy Life! None of this affects her outlook, she is always happy!! Oh I long to be able to enjoy life as she does, but I'm learning! Slow Down and Enjoy Your Day!! Wendy

  1. She looks so happy in this picture, isn't nice that she is happy all the time. I have a tough time with patience and it really is a virtue. I was helping my granddaughter one day when she was 3 making a card for her Mother, she had stickers and all kinds of buttons to glue on. I noticed she just kept putting all the stickers in one spot so I kept coaching her on where to put them. Finally exasperated she said "Grammy this is my art" I taught her that but forgot to heed my own words :) They all teach us a thing or two huh? Glad to see you posting about your days with Claire I love to see her smiling face. Hugs, Pearl

  4. This is a great blog! I have a friend who has a 6 month old daughter who was born with a cleft, and its amazing to see the growth you as parents have and are so willing to share with the rest of us. Thank you. It means a lot to me because it gives me strength as a mother too.

  5. Claire's beautiful! How old is she? Hypotonia is a real pain, isn't it? LOL Samantha's 5 1/2, and still isn't all that steady on her feet, in my opinion. Stairs are a particular issue. It's frustrating for us, but I know she will do what she's going to do when she's ready to do it. :-) Thanks for visiting my blog!
